HANGZHOU, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) announced on Thursday that 5G technology will be widely used in the 2022 Asian games in Hangzhou, capital of China's eastern province of Zhejiang, aiming to host a high-tech and intelligent sports event.

China Telecom and China Mobile became official communication service partners of the Hangzhou Asian games after signing a contract with HAGOC on Thursday evening.

"Communication service is an important guarantee of event information service, as well as the basic premise and important foundation for realizing the concept of 'intelligent' Asian games. We hope the joint guarantee of China Telecom and China Mobile can provide double insurance for the Asian games," Chen Weiqiang, Deputy Secretary General of the HAGOC and vice mayor of Hangzhou, said at the ceremony.

5G technology made its first debut at sports events in 2018, Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, shocking viewers around the world with the broadcast effects from a new perspective provided by 5G terminal devices.

How will 5G technologies be applied in Hangzhou?

"We will take advantage of 5G technology and deeply integrate new information technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet, cloud computing, big data and edge computing with the Asian games, and provide various intelligent management services in communication, game watching, travel, internet and security, so as to turn the Hangzhou Asian games into a high-tech and top-level event," China mobile Zhejiang branch deputy general manager Chen Hongtao said.

Both networks are the second official partners of the Hangzhou Asian Games. Chen Weiqiang said the HAGOC would fully explore the resources of the Asian games and making market development to become one of the most important ways to meet the needs of funds, materials, and services needed for the Asian games.
